Scott has more than twenty years experience as a litigator. His training began at the University of Virginia School of Law, where he attended the Trial Advocacy Institute and served as Executive Director of the Post-Conviction Assistance Project, an organization that litigated civil rights cases, including cases heard in the U.S. Supreme Court. During Scott's tenure, the U.S. Supreme Court referred to the Post-Conviction Assistance Project as "a respected friend of the Court."

Washington, D.C. , handling predominantly commercial litigation and professional negligence defense matters. Following his relocation to
Colorado in 1994, Scott opened his own practice, emphasizing personal injury, civil litigation, employment law, malpractice litigation, and business and commercial law. Scott was active in the First Judicial District Bar Association, serving as a trustee and committee chairperson. Since 2001, he has held the highest attorney peer review rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Directory. He joined Miller & Steiert in 2007, where his practice emphasizes employment, civil litigation and personal injury cases.
