Our Approach

At Miller & Steiert in Littleton, Colorado, we understand that disputes need to be resolved effectively and as quickly as possible. We encourage parties to a dispute, particularly family members, to resolve disputes through alternative dispute resolution methods, such as elder law mediation. This voluntary method supports family unity and often eliminates the need for costly, lengthy court battles.

In a mediation of a matter involving an older adult, a neutral trained facilitator will help the parties talk through the issues and reach a mutually acceptable resolution based on open discussion and compromise. While the mediator does not make the final decision, he or she can suggest creative solutions based on past experiences and the direction of the negotiations.

Elder law mediation can take many different forms. For example, all parties may be present at one time in the same room, or it may work better to start with separate meetings or caucuses with one or more of the parties. The session can be on one day only or may take multiple sessions over a period of time. The most valuable aspect of mediation is its flexibility. The parties and the mediator have an endless number of options to rely upon in reaching the solutions that work best for the family.
